Dr. Ibukun Gabriel Awolusi is an Associate Professor and Division Leader of Construction Science and Management in the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering, and Construction Management at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UT San Antonio). He holds the Waterman Construction Endowed Faculty Fellowship in Construction Science and Management and serves as the Principal Investigator and Director of the Safety Innovation and Intelligent Infrastructure (SI³) Lab at UT San Antonio. Dr. Awolusi earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Alabama (UA), as well as an M.Sc. in Construction Management (with Distinction) and a B.S. in Building (with First-Class Honors) from the University of Lagos (Unilag). Prior to joining academia, he spent several years in the construction industry, managing the delivery of a wide range of building and infrastructure projects.

Dr. Awolusi currently conducts research and provides consulting services in construction safety and health, automation and robotics, construction innovation and technology integration, space construction, sustainable materials and infrastructure, and workforce development. His research program has earned substantial competitive support from major federal agencies and foundations, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), U.S. Department of Labor (U.S. DOL), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) Foundation, among others, reflecting the significance and broad impact of his work in advancing the future of the built environment. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, conference papers, and technical reports, and regularly presents his research at national and international conferences, professional forums, and industry events.

Dr. Awolusi teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in construction safety and health, construction materials and methods, and advanced construction and infrastructure systems. He also leads workforce development and professional education initiatives that advance industry competencies, promote safety excellence, and prepare current and future construction professionals for leadership in the evolving built environment. In recognition of his contributions to education, research, and industry engagement, Dr. Awolusi has received several prestigious awards, including the 2025 William E. Tarrants Outstanding Safety Educator Award from the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the 2025 Rising Stars of Safety Award from the National Safety Council (NSC), among others.
